MVA Mission and Vision

Mission and Vision of the Office of Military & Veterans Affairs

Mission Statement

Military & Veterans Affairs (MVA) leads the coordination of the university's academic and administrative support systems to ensure that military-affiliated students progress toward their degrees without unnecessary barriers or reliance on self-navigation. Through comprehensive support, informed advocacy, and intentional campus and community partnerships, MVA empowers military-affiliated students to graduate prepared to contribute as leaders in their professions, communities, and civic life.

Vision

Through its work, Military & Veterans Affairs will position UT Tyler as the regional leader in military-affiliated education by advancing student success, strengthening pedagogy and campus belonging, and serving East Texas through innovative programming, research, and community partnership. We envision a university where military-affiliated students thrive as scholars and leaders—and where UT Tyler is recognized as the hub that supports student success & academic excellence, community engagement & empowerment, and career readiness.

MVA will realize this vision through the following strategic priorities:

  • Ensuring every military affiliated student has a clear, supportive pathway from admission through graduation and into their professional career.
  • Expanding a visible and supportive campus environment where military affiliated students, faculty, and staff experience meaningful belonging and engagement.
  • Building a high performing, data-informed operational structure that strengthens campus/community collaboration and long term capacity.
