UT Tyler Office of Compliance

The University of Texas at Tyler

Office of Compliance

To help preserve our culture of integrity, all employees are encouraged to report unethical, illegal or unsafe behavior. There are several methods by which an individual may report concerns.

Mission:

The role and mission of the University’s Office of Compliance is to uphold the University’s commitment to conducting business and educate students with the highest standards of ethics, integrity, lawful conduct and responsible citizenship. This commitment includes ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations. The Office of Compliance is fully aligned with the University's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan.

The Office of Compliance is established to:

  1. to prevent injury to our students, employees, and guests;
  2. to protect the University from litigation and fines;
  3. to prevent fraud and financial or data loss; and
  4. to safeguard the reputation of the University.

Goals:

The primary goal of the Office of Compliance is to coordinate the University’s numerous subject-specific compliance efforts and provide senior leadership with a comprehensive view of the University’s compliance activities. In addition, the Office of Compliance aims to not only develop policies and procedures that help ensure compliance, but to help verify that these policies are documented, communicated, implemented, enforced, and monitored. It has the additional goal of maintaining a compliance program that will make the University a model for compliance not only in Texas, but nationwide.

The Program:

The Office of Compliance currently consists of an Executive Director, five staff members, and an informal network of compliance leaders (subject-matter experts) from across the University. As it continues to grow and mature, additional documents, tools, committees, and functions will be added to this website.

Compliance Charter:

The Compliance Charter describes the mission, authority, independence, and principal responsibilities of the Office of Compliance at the University. The charter was approved by the Institutional Executive Compliance Committee on May 27, 2020.
