Stormwater Management

Environmental Health and Safety

At the University of Texas at Tyler, special storm water sewers handle storm water, such as rain and snowmelt. On our campus, these sewers discharge into the lakes or under University Boulevard eventually flows downstream into Gilley Greek. If the water carries contaminants such as mud, automobile fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, soaps, or other hazardous materials, the contaminants will be found in our lakes and eventually downstream. Storm sewers on campus are typically found in the lawns and the curbs of our streets. As part of our management program we must prevent storm water from carrying pollution from our grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, and outside activities into our lakes.
