Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology

Welcome to Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology!

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, was founded in 1929 with a mission to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology. More than three-quarters of a million lifetime members have joined including Distinguished Members such as Drs. Albert Bandura, B. F. Skinner, and Phillip Zimbardo. A few popular Membership Benefits include international recognition for academic excellence, as well as access to psychology-related publications and more than $400,000 in annual awards and grants.

Psi Chi Research Opportunities prepare you for the graduate school or lab of your choice.

• Psi Chi’s Network for International Collaborative Exchange (NICE) allows you to discover or post research projects seeking collaborators. You can also suggest potential projects that Psi Chi will then promote in order to generate large-scale collaboratively collected data.

Requirements for Membership

Undergraduates:

• Be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program or a program psychological in nature.
• Have completed at least 3 semesters or equivalent of full-time college coursework.
• Have completed at least 9 semester hours or equivalent of psychology courses.
• Have earned a cumulative GPA that is in the top 35% of their class (sophomore, junior, or senior).
• Compared to their classmates across the entire university or the college that houses psychology (minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale)
• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA average for psychology courses

Graduate students:

• Be accepted into and enrolled in a psychology or closely related graduate program.
• Have completed at least 9 semester hours of graduate psychology courses in that program.
• Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate courses including psychology courses.
• Meet their graduate program's requirements (e.g., if specific courses require an A or B, students.
• Must meet those requirements even if their cumulative GPA is above 3.0).

Transfer students:

• Follow the same requirements as the undergraduate student applicants.
• Complete at least 12 semester hours or equivalent of psychology coursework at the new institution.
• Unless the chapter's bylaws specify fewer hours—check with your local chapter.

How To Join

1. You will need to go to complete a new membership application to become a part UT Tyler‘s Psi Chi chapter.
2. Complete the UT Tyler chapter application. You will be asked for verification of GPA (unofficial transcripts). UT Tyler deadlines: 
   1. • Fall Semester: November 22
      • Spring Semester: March 22.
3. Once you have completed the online application and it is approved by your advisor and an induction date has been set on your account, the Psi Chi Headquarters will send you an automated e-mail including a payment link asking you to make payment electronically to become an official member. 
4. Once your payment amount of $60 ($55 Lifetime Member fee plus $5 processing fee) is received, your membership will be processed by the Psi Chi Central Office, and you will receive your “Welcome New Member” e-mail. This e-mail will include all you need to access your Psi Chi member account and all Psi Chi benefits of membership.

 

Transferring your Psi Chi Membership from a Previous Institution

• You will need your Psi Chi member number.
• Complete the transferring application here.
