Student Progression Policy

This policy establishes the standards, evaluation methods, and decision-making processes used to determine student academic and professional progression within the PA Program. It promotes fairness, transparency, and consistency.

Academic & Professional Progression Requirements

To remain in good academic standing, students must:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  2. Earn a minimum grade of 75% (C) in every individual course.
  3. Maintain professionalism standards.
  4. Successfully complete all didactic and clinical requirements within the
    prescribed timeframe.

Below Minimum Program Standings

Academic Probation

  • GPA falls below 3.0

Professionalism Probation: Documented professionalism infraction that is reported to licensing
boards upon graduation and is recorded in the student’s file.

Role of the Admissions & Student Progress Committee (ASPC)

The ASPC oversees student progression, ensures consistency and fairness in
academic decisions and makes recommendations to the Program Director.

Responsibilities Relevant to Progression

  • Review student academic performance and professionalism each semester, and as needed.
  • Recommend deceleration, dismissal, or withdrawal to the Program Director.
  • Assigns Academic Probation based on GPA at the end of each semester.
  • Determine student progression to the clinical year.
  • Determine graduation referral for each student.
  • Assign professionalism probation as needed or at the end of the semester.

Appeals Process

Appeals follow a multi-step structure:

  1. Initial Appeal: Once a student is issued a decision from the Program Director, the student has 10 business days to submit, in writing, their appeal to the Program Director.
  2. Secondary Appeal: If denied, submitted to the College/School Student Affairs Appeal Panel.
  3. Final Appeal: Institution-level final ruling per university policy.

The PA Program Director does not participate in ASPC decisions to preserve neutrality for
appeals.
