The master’s in engineering leadership is a 30-credit-hour course of study you can complete in two years. Build on your background with additional skills and competencies in three areas:

  • Business Management: See the big picture as you learn the fundamentals of project management and team leadership, including operations, accounting, human resources and marketing. Prepare to plan and oversee all stages of a project and help move operations forward.
  • Leadership: Delve into organizational behavior and change theories, and hone key leadership competencies in conflict resolution, decision-making, vision casting and ethics.

How to Apply

Students entering the Master of Science in engineering leadership program should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

The MSEL program requires students who have not earned such a degree to complete prerequisite coursework, as determined by the Graduate Coordinator, before officially enrolling.

To be considered for admission, please submit or provide proof of:

  • A completed online application.
  • Official transcripts for all prior undergraduate- or graduate-level work, submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  • A satisfactory grade point average on your last four semesters of academic study and the last 60 semester credit hours of upper-division undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • A satisfactory score on the General Test (verbal and quantitative) of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or an approved GRE waiver. (GRE Code for UT Tyler: 6850)
  • English language proficiency, demonstrated for both spoken and written forms.
  • A résumé.

The College of Engineering may also consider one or more of the following: your demonstrated commitment to your chosen field of study, status as a first-generation college graduate, multilingual proficiency, geographic region of residence and level of responsibility in other matters, including extracurricular activities, employment, community service and family responsibilities.

When you’re a working professional, fitting your coursework within your busy schedule can be a challenge. That’s why, in addition to our main campus in Tyler, we also offer the master’s in engineering leadership through our Houston Engineering Center for those who work in or near the city.
