Who is Required to Report Outside Activities and Interests in the Portal?

The Decision Matrix identifies who needs to report outside interests and activities in the Portal, including substantial foreign relationships, and what should be reported.

It is structured to be used in the following order:

Category 3 – All University employees should report the outside activities and interests and/or substantial foreign relationships listed in Category 3, except those exempted under Categories 1 and 2, and except for those carried out wholly outside a faculty member's period of appointment at the University (usually during the summer for faculty who do not have appointments for the full 12 months of the year).

Category 4 – All University employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, and non-exempt), students, outside collaborators and subcontractors, and covered family members who are engaged in University research or sponsored projects should report the outside activities and interests and/or substantial foreign relationships listed in the Decision Matrix.

Category 5 – All University employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, and non-exempt) who are involved in procurement activities should report the outside activities and interests and/or substantial foreign relationships listed in the Decision Matrix.

General Rule – All University employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, and non-exempt) should report outside activities and interests and/or substantial foreign relationships not covered above that may reasonably appear, in the eyes of an objective third-party observer, to create a conflict of interest or interfere with their University responsibilities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Full-time employees with no outside activities or interests to report must still log in to the Portal during the Annual Disclosure Period (January, February, and March of each year) and complete the “No Activity Form” for the prior year (check all boxes and click submit).
