Biography

Susan Doty is the founding director of the Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy at The University of Texas at Tyler, where she serves on the economics faculty as a senior lecturer and undergraduate economics advisor.  Prior to starting the CEEFL at UT Tyler, she started a similar center at the University of Southern Mississippi.  Both university centers, in their respective states, have been recognized for their rapid growth in teacher outreach.  She serves on the executive committee for the National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) and is currently its president-elect. Concurrently, she serves as a board member both for the Council for Economic Education in New York (CEE) and the Texas Council on Economic Education in Houston (TCEE.)
She completed her undergraduate work in biology at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts and has an MBA from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.  She spent a first career in the biotechnology industry, where she was a champion of innovation and entrepreneurship.  Susan has been teaching economics and personal finance for over 25 years and is in her 8^th year at UT Tyler. She has taught previously at the Sam Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the Maxwell School of Public Policy at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Her professional interests are in instructional design, especially the use of technology in the classroom, and economic and financial literacy, and professional development in P-20 education. Susan has been recognized for outstanding teaching and was a recipient of the 2015 University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2016 UT Tyler Student Engagement Partnership Award.  She is a founding fellow and president-elect of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at The University of Texas at Tyler.  She is the mother of four and grandmother of two and her personal interests include reading, travel, gardening, birdwatching and duplicate bridge.
