The University of Texas at Tyler recently announced that nursing undergraduate student Robert Ramos of Palestine was elected secretary/treasurer to the National Student Nurses' Association Board of Directors for the 2018-19 year.

"Strong faculty mentorship and hands-on experience in patient advocacy help prepare our bachelor of science in nursing students to assume leadership roles. We are incredibly proud of Robert and anticipate he will continue to be a compelling voice for nursing and patient care in the future," said Dr. Barbara Haas, UT Tyler School of Nursing Executive Director.

A senior nursing major, Ramos is past secretary/treasurer of the Texas Student Nurses' Association and actively involved with the UT Tyler Palestine Campus Student Nurses' Association chapter.

More than 2,900 participants consisting of students, speakers, faculty, consultants and exhibitors gathered at the NSNA 66th Anniversary Convention "Nursing: Get Hooked! Insight, Inspiration on a Global Scale." New officers were installed during the closing session of the House of Delegates meeting and will serve one term.

NSNA's mission is to mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses, and to convey the standards, ethics and skills that students will need as responsible and accountable leaders and members of the profession.
