The University of Texas at Tyler recently announced it has received a $10,000 gift from the Terracon Foundation.

UT Tyler will use the funds to establish advanced geotechnical engineering research space and educational materials for civil engineering students. UT Tyler civil engineering alumnus and Tyler office manager for Terracon Clayton Carroll of Tyler submitted the approved grant application.

"We thank the Terracon Foundation for their continued support, and we are grateful for the gift and to alumni like Clayton who recognize the value and impact of a UT Tyler engineering degree. These efforts go a long way to enhancing our programs and our students' successes," said Dr. Javier Kypuros, UT Tyler College of Engineering dean.

A subset of civil engineering, geotechnical engineering utilizes the disciplines of rock and soil mechanics to investigate subsurface conditions for the design and building of foundations, earth structures and pavement sub-grades.

UT Tyler College of Engineering programs are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. For more information, visit uttyler.edu/engineering/.
