The University of Texas at Tyler recently received a $12,000 gift as a part of a collaboration between its School of Education and Cooperative Teachers Credit Union.

The gift will support the East Texas Center for School Based Research and Instruction, which provides high-quality professional development for teachers and administrators in the region.

"The key to a successful educational system is to have outstanding educators leading and teaching in our East Texas schools, which is the objective of the Center for School Based Research and Instruction," said Dr. Ross Sherman, dean of UT Tyler's College of Education and Psychology. "Sponsorships likes this from Cooperative Teachers Credit Union are crucial not only for the center to meet its mission, but to the future economic and social welfare of our state and region also."

The $12,000 will fund upcoming center projects designed to provide resources to help meet critical educational needs in area schools and communities. Projects include a school leadership conference, a literacy academy, an annual school law conference, a conference focused on women in leadership and seminar-style events called "ED Talks."

A member of the prestigious UT System, The University of Texas at Tyler focuses on student success and innovative research in the more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered. With more than 10,000 students, UT Tyler has facilities in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
