UT Tyler Faculty to Lead National Research Institute

The University of Texas at Tyler announced that Dr. Venugopal "Venu" Gopalakrishna-Remani, Soules College of Business associate professor of management, has been elected to serve in various leadership roles for the Southwest Decision
Sciences Institute.

Gopalakrishna-Remani will serve as vice president for programs and meetings for 2019-20, program chair for 2020-21, president-elect for 2021-22 and president for 2022-23.

"We are excited about Dr. Gopalakrishna-Remani being elected to leadership roles in the Southwest Decision Sciences Institute as this directly aligns with the University's vision of becoming the primary educational and economic driver of East Texas and directly contributes to the research and scholarship pillar of our strategic plan," said Dr. Kerri Camp, associate dean.

As a SWDSI leader, Gopalakrishna-Remani will help promote strong senior management leadership and smart business decision making.

SWDSI, a regional branch of DSI, is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the research and enhancement of the business decision sciences. They are a collaborative group of various mathematical formulae, business tactics, technological applications and behavioral sciences to aid senior management in making the best data driven decisions.

Gopalakrishna-Remani holds a Ph.D. in business administration and currently serves on the UT Tyler Faculty Senate. He has presented his research at various national and international conferences, including both DSI and SWDSI, and has published articles in top industry journals including Information and Management, International Journal of Sustainable Society, International Journal of Production Economics, Organization and Environment and Information System Frontiers. In addition, he gave the keynote address at the 2017 International Conference on Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine in Dallas, Texas.

Among his service responsibilities at the University, Gopalakrishna-Remani also has provided leadership development in data analytics for UT Tyler faculty and was the 2014-16 UT Tyler Data Analytic Faculty Fellow.
