The University of Texas at Tyler announced that the Soules College of Business Society for Human Resource Management Student Chapter was recognized during its inaugural appearance at the 2019 Texas SHRM Student Conference and Games held in Waco, Texas.

Student representatives placed third among 10 collegiate teams statewide in a Jeopardy!-type trivia contest which features topics in human resource development and helps prepare eligible students to pass the national SHRM certification exam.

UT Tyler students honored were Peggy Martinez of Lindale, Daniela Pereira of Katy and Nicole Helmuth and Daniel Daniel, both of Tyler.

"Our students represented the University extremely well, and I was beyond proud regarding their accomplishment and professionalism at the conference. They were able to network with other student SHRM chapters across the state of Texas and demonstrate their talent and knowledge in the field of human resources," said Amy Clem, UT Tyler lecturer of management and chapter adviser. "The questions asked were in the format that would be seen on the national SHRM certification exam, which allowed students to not only test their knowledge of HR, but also provide the opportunity to learn the style of the exam and to prepare those who would be eligible to sit for the certification upon graduation."

The University's Department of Human Resource Development provides strong preparation for careers in business, industry, education and government through outstanding undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Students learn to make vital contributions to corporate success through the process of developing employee expertise and creating a satisfying, productive work environment.

With five academic departments, 62 full-time faculty and nearly 3,000 students, the Soules College of Business is one of UT Tyler's largest colleges. Soules awards nearly 900 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees annually in 12 different majors. The college is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Only 5 percent of business schools globally hold this prestigious accreditation.
