UT Tyler's Jump Start Program
Get a Jump Start on Your College Career!
The Jump Start program at UT Tyler is designed to help first-time freshmen build a solid foundation in college by starting one semester early and learning all about college in the slower pace of the Summer II semester. Our goal is to ease the transition from high school to college in order to enhance the college experience for our participants. Jump Start begins the second summer semester just prior to the fall semester and the program lasts 5 weeks.
Students participating in Jump Start will be enrolled in two, 3 credit hour classes as well as a student success seminar. The classes offered will be supported by free tutoring daily during the Jump Start semester. The student success seminar is designed to introduce students to the tools that are needed to be successful in college. Jump Start students will also be introduced to the resources available on campus that are instrumental in their academic success. The best part of all is that Jump Start students get acquainted with all of this before the busy fall semester begins so that they are already familiar with UT Tyler and feeling at home.
Jump Start participants will live together in campus housing for the Summer II semester, unless they have the housing requirements waived. They will also have the chance to be involved in various fun activities that will encourage social interaction with their peers.
