Music Degree Programs

The School of Performing Arts offers coursework leading to the Bachelor of Music degree (BM) and Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (BA). A minor in music is also available for students earning degrees in areas outside of music.

Please note
Students should be aware that for music majors, music-specific coursework must begin with the first semester of freshman enrollment. Unlike some other majors, it is not possible to take only university core courses ("basics") during the first two years, and still graduate in eight semesters.

Traditional students (those who started at UT Tyler as freshmen) should register for this course in the same semester they complete the Upper Division Barrier—typically their fourth semester of lessons. Transfer students should register in their first semester of junior-level lessons at UT Tyler. If they did not pass the Upper Division Barrier during their transfer audition, they should enroll in the semester they plan to complete the barrier.
