Thank you for your interest in our new anesthesiology training program at UT Tyler School of Medicine. Our second class of six PGY-1 residents started in June 2025, and the 1st class are currently enjoying their first few months in the ORs!
Our vision and mission mirrors that of the UT Tyler community to address access to high-quality healthcare in East Texas. In the anesthesiology program, we accomplish this with robust clinical training, comprehensive education and exposure to clinical research, community engagement and advocacy. We are fortunate to have outstanding simulation, clinical research and patient safety support in the medical school and a cohort of experience, skilled anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists who are officially transitioning to the UT Tyler team.
I started as program director in April 2024 to continue the initial work accomplished by Dr. Dave Warters, department chair, and our faculty colleagues. I am a distinguished teaching professor and have had decades of clinical, educational, mentoring and research experience at McGovern Medical School in Houston which has prepared me for this exciting new venture. My passion is hands-on teaching and instruction in the OR and as an ABA-Applied examiner, I am able to guide the spectrum of learners from initial exposure as a clinical medical student to a graduate or new faculty member preparing for their final certification exam.
I am active in our professional organizations and societies, past president of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, currently serve on the Texas Medical Association Council on Medical Education and as a Texas delegate to the American Society of Anesthesiologists House of Delegates. I would be delighted to mentor any students and residents with similar enthusiasm for organized medicine.
I am a sports enthusiast with diverse interests spanning USA rugy, Aston Villa football, Zimbabwe/South Africa/USA cricket, Houston Astros and many others. I spend free time with my wife, and we are both currently working on our Masters in Theology.
Thank you again for your interests and we look forward to sharing our program, personnel and opportunities with you as well as the beauty and charm of Tyler.
