The Department of Neurology at UT Tyler School of Medicine is advancing neurological care, education and research for East Texas. With expertise in movement disorders, Parkinson's disease, deep brain stimulation, Botulinum toxin injections, acute stroke care, memory and cognitive disorders, neuromuscular and autonomic disorders, headache, epilepsy and general neurology, the department is uniquely positioned to address the region's complex neurological needs. Collaborating with healthcare providers across Tyler and East Texas, the department delivers comprehensive care and innovative therapies.
Our mission is dedicated to advancing neurological health and well-being for the people of rural East Texas through community engagement, innovative multidisciplinary clincal care, pioneering research and comprehensive education. Our vision will guide the department into becoming a premier center for neurological care in East Texas, defining a new standard of innovative and compassionate care for all, transforming research and setting new standards for medical training across the spectrum of learners.
We strive to address barriers to care and improve health outcomes in our region, particularly with risk factors related to poor health. We will leverage multidisciplinary collaboration, emerging technology and expanded access to reduce the burden of neurological disease and improve quality of life for every person. Together, we will transform neurological health in East Texas - setting new standards regionally and nationally in clinical excellence, research innovation and community engagement.
The department has established the first neurology residency program in East Texas, training residents to become outstanding clinicians ready for independent practice or further subspecialty training. Advanced education is offered in movement and neuromuscular disorders, cognitive disorders, deep brain stimulation, epilepsy, headache, sleep, pediatric neurology and autonomic disorders. Our curriculum providers a strong neurology foundation for all future physicians, while partnerships with other residency programs foster multidisciplinary collaboration.
Our faculty are actively engaged in clinical research, focusing on new therapies for Parkinson's disease, strokeband functional neurological disorders. Our faculty have also led numerous clinical trials and contributed to the field through publications, book authorship, editorship and leadership roles in national and international organizations. Collaborations with local and national partners drive innovation and ensure research benefits the patients and communities served.
The department is dedicated to improving access to neurological care in rural East Texas by partnering with rural clinics and health organizations. Outreach, education and support are provided for patients and families affected by neurological disorders, aiming to improve health outcomes across the region.
