Biography

Research areas: reliability polynomials, pattern avoidance in permutations, graph automorphisms

Dr. Christy Graves has been a member of the math faculty at UT Tyler since 2009. Prior to coming to UT Tyler, Christy received a Bachelor's degree in both math and computer science from Eastern Illinois University and her Master's degree and PhD from Syracuse University.

As a member of the UT Tyler math department, Christy has won numerous teaching awards including the UT Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, the White Fellowship for Teaching Excellence, and the Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation's Level I and Level II Certificate. She is also a Founding Fellow for the UT Tyler Academy of Distinguished Teachers and currently holds the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor.

Besides teaching, Christy is also heavily involved in research. She has over 20 publications in various international journals and is an Associate Editor for Networks. In 2023, she was recognized for her research contributions by being awarded the UT Tyler President’s Scholarly Achievement Award.  Prior to that, she served as the UT Faculty Fellow for Undergraduate Research from 2013 through 2017, and has been a research mentor for over 30 undergraduates.

Christy's research areas include reliability polynomials, pattern avoidance in permutations, graph automorphisms, fullerenes, and general combinatorics and graph theory. She has articles published in many journals including Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, Networks, Discrete Mathematics, and Journal of Graph Theory.
