James Rapp

James Rapp, MS, ATC/LAT, has served as Director of Sports Medicine since 2005. From 1997 to 2002, he was the Head Athletic Trainer for football and men’s basketball at the University of Tennessee at Martin, supporting NCAA Division I–FCS athletics. He also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Previously, James served as Head Athletic Trainer and faculty member at Mount Olive College in North Carolina from 1994 to 1997, working with NCAA Division II athletics. From 1992 to 1994, he was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he earned his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology as part of the Class of 1994.
Earlier in his career, James held several professional sports and clinical roles, including Head Athletic Trainer for the Huntsville Lasers, a professional basketball team in the Global Basketball Association (1991–1992); Clinical and Outreach Athletic Trainer with Campbell Orthopedic Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee (1990–1991); and Head Athletic Trainer for the Memphis Rogues, a professional indoor soccer team in the American Indoor Soccer Association (1989).
James earned his Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Fitness Management from the University of Memphis, graduating cum laude in 1990.
