CETL Active Learning Support Grant

CETL Active Learning Support Grant

Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Need supplies for your class? We can help!

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL)  is dedicated to the advancement of best practices in teaching and learning at The University of Texas at Tyler. Active learning is an empirically-based pedagogical approach that empowers students to participate in their learning so as to provide a deeper understanding of the subject matter and/or skills being taught. Active learning strategies include numerous different activities in which students take an active role in their education, including group discussions, problem-solving exercises, debates, hands-on experiments, project construction, role playing, and more. Active learning strategies also include several high-impact practices such as internships, service learning, and undergraduate research.
In order to assist our teachers in providing the best instruction possible, the CETL is offering grants of up to $250 to faculty for supplies that facilitate active learning in the classroom. These supplies can include (but are not limited to):

Books on specific active learning techniques (e.g. service learning, class discussions)
Clickers
Case studies, puzzles, or other activity materials
Easels and flip charts
Index cards or post-it notes
Anyone currently teaching or scheduled to teach a course at UT Tyler is eligible for the Active Learning Support Grant, regardless of rank or full-time/part-time employment status.

Active Learning Support Grant proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with approximately 40% of our allocated money reserved for fall courses, 40% for spring courses, and 20% for summer courses. All supplies must be justified on the form below, and will be purchased by the CETL directly once awarded.

To apply for the Active Learning Support Grant, please submit an application. You will be asked to provide your contact information, a description of the active learning strategy you are wanting to implement, and information about all materials being requested.
