Commencement Regalia

Academic regalia is the traditional dress of mortarboard/tam (cap) and gown for degree candidates participating in the Commencement ceremonies. Current official licensed UT Tyler Commencement regalia is required to participate in the Commencement ceremonies. UT Tyler's official licensed vendors are Herff Jones (online orders) and the UT Tyler Campus Store (in-person orders).

Doctoral:

Doctorate of Philosophy GownDoctorate of Philosophy 

  • Black doctoral gown with royal blue velvet with orange piping chevrons and front panel stripes. 
  • Black doctoral tam (cap).
  • Black 4 ft. doctoral hood with royal blue velvet faculty color, & orange and white satin stripes.

 

Doctorate of Nursing Practice GownDoctorate of Nursing Practice

  • Black doctoral gown with apricot velvet with orange piping chevrons and front panel stripes.
  • Black doctoral tam (cap).
  • Black 4 ft. doctoral hood with apricot velvet faculty color, & orange and white satin stripes.

 

Doctorate of Pharmacy GownDoctorate of Pharmacy

  • Black doctoral gown with olive velvet with orange piping chevrons and front panel stripes.
  • Black doctoral tam (cap).
  • Black 4 ft. doctoral hood with olive velvet faculty color, & orange and white satin stripes.

 

Master:

  • Master GownNavy blue masters gown with distinctive elongated sleeves.
  • Navy blue mortarboard (cap) with black tassel. 
  • Navy 3.5 ft. blue masters hood with velvet faculty color, & orange and white satin stripes.
  • Gratitude Stole (Optional).

 

 

 

Baccalaureate:

Baccalaureate Gown

  • Navy blue baccalaureate gown.
  • Navy blue mortarboard (cap) with faculty color tassel.
  • Gratitude Stole (Optional).

 

Faculty Colors for Hoods & Tassels

The faculty colors are the degree discipline colors that will be represented in velvet on the Doctoral and Masters hoods and the Baccalaureate tassels.

Honor Cords, Stoles, Medals & Medallions

Gratitude StoleGratitude Stole: This item is optional and not required. 

Candidates are welcome to wear these types of regalia items during the Commencement:

  • Medals or medallions presented by a UT Tyler College or from the UT Tyler Honors Programs specifically for completion of degrees.
  • Stoles from a UT Tyler recognized student organization/society, or from a UT Tyler College or Department.
  • Personalized stoles are not approved.
  • Honor cords from a UT Tyler recognized student organization/society, or from a UT Tyler College or Department.
  • Undergraduate Latin Honors will be reflective as of the end of the Spring 2024 term. These honors are awarded to candidates are based on the following two criteria.45 or more for-GPA credit hours earned at UT Tyler
    Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
    • Summa Cum Laude: 3.90 - 4.00 GPA
    • Magna Cum Laude: 3.70 - 3.89 GPA
    • Cum Laude: 3.50 - 3.69 GPA
    • Undergraduate students earning these honors will receive the applicable honor cords during the student check-in process at the Commencement ceremonies.

Cap Decorating 

You are welcome to decorate your Master & Baccalaureate mortarboards (cap) to celebrate your outstanding achievement. These decorations will be monitored during student line-up. Please keep all decorations appropriate and respectful for the event.
