Walking the Camino: From Self-Discovery to Professional Development
Faculty-led Programs
Program Overview
This is an experiential learning program that invites students to walk the Camino de Santiago from Porto, Portugal through Spain. Grounded in the tradition of pilgrimage as a journey of self-discovery, reflection, and companionship, the Camino becomes a classroom beyond the traditional learning environment. The program emphasizes that developing an effective mental health professional begins with developing the person, providing students with opportunities to step beyond the familiar, learn through experience, and explore who they are shapes the clinician they are becoming.
Academics
Students participating in this program will be enrolled in either PSYC 5380 or COUN 5380 during the short summer semester. The course(s) are intended for graduate students. The tuition and fees associated with the course are not included in the program fee.

Level of Activity: Strenuous (Level 4)
The program requires participants to walk upwards of 10 to 15 miles per day. While
the activities are not extreme, they involve sustained effort over several days, making
this program suitable for those comfortable with a strenuous activity level.
Housing & Meals
Housing
Housing in bed and breakfasts along the walking route with breakfast and dinner included most days.
Transportation
In-country transportation is included in the program fee and round-trip transportation for all site visits and excursions on the program itinerary. International round-trip airfare is not included in the program fee.
Entry Requirements
Passport
All international travel requires a valid passport. The passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. In addition, your passport must have at least six months’ remaining validity on your passport from the date of your planned return. If you do not have a passport, schedule your appointment at the UT Tyler Passport Acceptance Facility.
Visa
Utilize the U.S. State Department's Learn About Your Destination search tool to research your destination country. On the nation's information webpage, you will discover details about entry, exit, and visa prerequisites.

None required.
