UT Tyler School of Performing Arts
The School of Performing Arts offers course work leading to the Bachelor of Music degree (BM) and Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (BA). A minor in music is also available for students earning degrees in areas outside of music.
Bachelor of Music students may select an emphasis in:
- Instrumental or Vocal Music Education
- Instrumental, Vocal or Piano Performance
- Piano Pedagogy
Bachelor of Arts in Music students may complete a capstone research project in:
- Music History
- Music Theory
For those who plan to teach music at the elementary, or secondary levels, a Music Teacher Certification Program is also available in conjunction with many of our degrees through the College of
Education and Psychology.
Students should be aware that for music majors, music-specific coursework must begin with the first semester of freshman enrollment. Unlike some other majors, it is not possible to take only university core courses ("basics") during the first two years, and still graduate in eight semesters.
