UT Tyler 50th Anniversary

A Time of Transition

UT Tyler made significant strides in the 1990s, culminating in its transition to a four-year university accepting freshmen and sophomores. The university initiated high-tech instruction including interactive video systems, opened its first on-campus student housing complex and constructed the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, which would become a major venue for cultural arts in East Texas. And in 1998, UT Tyler proudly admitted its first freshman class.
