Building for the Future

Throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s, the university continued to reach new heights in its mission to improve educational and healthcare outcomes for East Texas and beyond. The Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy opened in the new W.T. Brookshire Hall. The College of Business and Technology was renamed Soules College of Business and relocated to a larger facility. Also, the UT System Board of Regents allocated $35 million for construction of a new nursing facility, and the university was authorized to work toward establishing an East Texas medical school.

The most significant milestone of the period was the unification of UT Tyler and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler into a single institution serving the region and state. The university now encompasses the Tyler main campus, UT Health Science Center at Tyler and instructional sites in Longview, Palestine and Houston. The merger also aligns the university with the UT Health East Texas healthcare system, which includes 10 hospitals and 22 clinics across East Texas.
