Presidential Rose Scholar Elizabeth Nixon
Presidential Rose Scholar Spotlight
Elizabeth Nixon
Biochemistry
2026Elizabeth Nixon is a biochemistry student at UT Tyler. When Elizabeth was deciding which college
she wanted to attend, she realized that she valued close connections and relationships.
This led her to choose UT Tyler. It's the type of school where she can walk outside
and everyone feels like family. After working at a hospital for a year, she sat down
with an employee who explained the path to becoming a PA. From seeing how happy he
was, Elizabeth decided it was something she wanted to pursue. Dr. LeBlanc from the
honors college encouraged her to do more when she didn't have confidence in herself.
Elizabeth believes it's professors like that who make you a better person, and not
just academically.
Elizabeth emphasizes her honor and respect for UT Tyler. The process to becoming a Rose Scholar was long, but there were many students and faculty supporting her, which she is grateful for. The Presidential Rose scholarship not only provided financial assistance, but it also supported her academic studies. Elizabeth was able to focus on something greater. To keep her legacy at UT Tyler, she plans on applying to the PA school in Longview once it opens. She wants to continue promoting UT Tyler so others can build a lasting community the same way she did.
