Victoria Okafor is currently a nursing student at UT Tyler. She was inspired to pursue nursing after growing up with a family member being in and out of the hospital due to illness. Victoria would watch the care the nurses gave to her family, and she decided she wanted to be like them. She believes the UT Tyler nursing faculty is the best in the community. With support from the nursing faculty, Victoria decided to work in the ICU after graduation and come back to UT Tyler to get her CRNA degree.

The Presidential Rose scholarship played a huge role in her school year. The scholarship lifted Victoria's financial burden. With her sister being in and out of the hospital, her family racked up hospital bills bills making college tuition a struggle. Victoria is now able to focus on her education rather than finances. This scholarship pushed her out of her shell by giving her opportunities to network. After graduation, Victoria plans to reflect the values UT Tyler instilled in her and represent the school well in her community.
