UT Tyler Department of Political Science

After completing the Political Science degree program at UT Tyler, students can achieve the following:

Soft Skills:
  • Address challenging problems and issues through: creative thinking, inquiry, innovation, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of information including numerical data or observable facts.
  • Respond in an ethical manner by connecting data, behavior, choices, consequences to ethical theories.
  • Communicate ideas effective through written, oral, and visual delivery modes.
  • Work effectively in teams.
  • Advance the human condition through learned international cultural competence, knowledge of civil responsibility, and a foundational knowledge of human behavior.
Hard Skills:
  • Expertise in the political institutions of both Texas and the United States.
  • Participate in community organizations, electoral politics, social and political movements, and elected or appointed positions in government.
  • Engage in critical thinking, expository and persuasive writing, oral communication, cirtical reading, research and organization skill necessary for graduate and law school. Use knowledge of the law and analyze and argue court cases.
  • Work in teams to compete in Model UN competitions and Moot court competitions.
  • Formulating solutions to current global problems though the Model UN program. Explain current issues such as human rights, international law, humanitarian intervention, the environment, conflict resolution, and the role of science and technology in maintaining international peace.
