Alma Mater

The Alma Mater was written by the late Dr. Tom G. Turns. Dr. Turns was one of the first faculty members in the Education department, being hired in June of 1973. In 1975, he became The Dean of Student Life and later became The Dean of Student Services.

The Alma Mater was first sung at commencement during the Summer of 1985 by graduate student, Steven Lynn Brand. Before the Alma Mater was implemented, “America The Beautiful” was sung during commencement ceremonies.
