Graduate Medical Education Welcome

On behalf of The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to our institution’s website and to offer you the opportunity to participate in the vision for the promotion of healthcare and wellbeing in East Texas. It is my hope that you will take the time to virtually explore our programs, our institution, and our great state. I believe you will find that our respective residency and fellowship training programs are committed to providing education and training to the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Graduate medical education is an integral part of the mission, vision, and goals UT Tyler School of Medicine. One key goal of our department is to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our institution has been involved in GME since 1985 with the establishment of our first family medicine residency program. Currently we have 20 ACGME-approved residency and fellowship programs. We continue to work on the establishment of more residency and fellowship programs.

Our GME programs are known for providing and nurturing a very supportive clinical learning environment that allows for individual and collective growth and flourishing. Our multiple clinics and hospitals provide unique opportunities to train our residents and fellows in a wide range of clinical scenarios, complemented with multiple educational and other daily learning opportunities. Teaching and participation in quality improvement, clinical research, and other scholarly activities are a priority in all the programs and are supported and coordinated at the institutional GME level. We model and foster opportunities for our residents and fellows to grow in their leadership skills as future leaders of their communities.

Our program leaders, teaching faculty and staff are experienced, dedicated and invested in the growth and development of our residents, fellows, and in our institutional and community goals. In addition, East Texas offers a comparatively low cost of living, good school systems, and the opportunity to enjoy various forms of entertainment and nature.

We sincerely invite you to explore our programs and to consider partnering with our institution during these exciting times as we improve health outcomes in East Texas.
