Dr. Hermanns is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of individuals with chronic illness through research that examines the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of disease management. Her ongoing research evaluates the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions and their impact on health outcomes among adults with chronic illnesses.
Dr. Hermanns’ program of research is grounded in two primary areas of inquiry: chronic illness and nursing education pedagogy. Her work in chronic illness has enhanced understanding of how individuals and families navigate chronic illness and has generated insights that inform patient-centered interventions, clinical practice, and health promotion strategies aimed at maintaining or improving health and quality of life.
Her educational scholarship focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning strategies. This work includes simulation-based learning and structured instructional methodologies designed to foster student engagement and support academic success. Through these contributions, she advances evidence-based nursing education and enhances student learning.
Together, these areas of scholarship reflect Dr. Hermanns’ commitment to improving the lives of individuals with chronic illness while advancing evidence-based practice, nursing education, and professional development across the nursing workforce.
