Patriot Student Mentor Program

The Patriot Student Mentor Program connects new freshmen and transfer students with a knowledgeable peer mentor, known as a Patriot Student Mentor! The first year of college can come with challenges and the goal of the mentoring program is to provide first year students with a consistent, friendly face with whom they can always rely on. Best of all, participation in the mentoring program is FREE!

How are Mentors selected?

Patriot Student Mentors (PSMs) must have served as an Orientation Leader or Camp Leader for the Office of New Student Programs, and must demonstrate a passion for student success! 

How are Mentees paired with a Mentor?

Mentees are matched with a PSM based on their major! We have found that combining pairing students in this way allows their mentor to be of the most assistance, and they often share similar interests!

Pairs are assigned and given one another's contact information and PSMs share weekly updates with their group of students. Groups are encouraged to get together regularly to help navigate the first year transition to UT Tyler!
