Family Medicine Athens Residency FAQ
Are you ACGME accredited?
Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME) as a three-year categorical family medicine training program.
How do I submit my application?
We accept applications through ERAS.
What is the application deadline?
Our deadline for applications is November 30th.
Do you accept international medical graduate (IMG) applications?
International medical graduate applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis
by our applications committee. Should your application meet our standards, you will
be contacted for an interview.
Will you be offering virtual interviews?
We offer virtual interviews. Applicants are free to schedule in-person tours of the
area on their own time and expense.
We also offer an annual second look event in February.
Can I select my interview date?
We do offer flexible scheduling through Thalamus where an applicant can select any
available dates/slots we have remaining or can request a spot for a specific date
via waitlist.
What if I cannot make my interview date or need to change?
Please notify our Program Administrator by email, phone, or Thalamus as soon as possible
if a scheduling change is needed. Dates can also be changed through the Thalamus scheduling
system.
Will the program allow moonlighting?
We do allow moonlighting opportunities for our PGY-2 & PGY-3 residents who have passed
thier ITEs, have a full state license, and are in good standing with the program.
How many residents does your program accept each year?
We accept 6 positions per year for a full complement of 18 residents.
Where will my rotations be located?
- UT Health Athens (primary site)
- UT Tyler Health Science Center
- UT Health Tyler
- Christus Trinity Mother Frances (CTMF) Tyler
- Various community clinics in Athens & Tyler
- East Texas Community Clinic (continuity FMP)
Approximately 90% of all core rotations are local within Athens, with the vast majority of electives also within Athens.
Do you offer an employment benefits package?
Yes, in conjunction with UT System benefits.
Do you accept COMLEX?
Yes.
