Biography

Haley Garrelts received her BA in English from Stephen F. Austin State University, her MA in Literature from The University of Alabama, and her PhD in American Literature from Texas Tech University. Currently, Dr. Garrelts teaches First-Year Composition at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she emphasizes multimodal instruction and career-readiness for her students. Her research applies sound studies to American literature and explores the literary representation of sound as it connects to a broader culture. Most recently, she has explored the sonic literary representation of war in American Civil War poetry.
