Skyler King has taught courses in first-year writing and research, basic writing,
ESL/linguistics, and TESOL at several universities and colleges, both in-person and
online since 2015. He directed the Language Success Center at Chaffey College, where
he mentored bilingual consultants in metacognitive tutoring techniques, CRLA standards,
and second language acquisition principles from 2014 to 2020.
His research interests include first-year writing scholarship, corpus analysis, media
bias, and AI literacy. His dissertation investigates how first-year writing (FYW)
student scholarship circulates in academic publications and sees the need to redefine
scholarship from the standpoint of published FYW journals. He is the founder and editor-in-chief
of Aerie: A Journal of First-year Writing and Research.
