"I love spending time outdoors, spending time with friends and colleagues, and  enjoy travelling. I have passion for hematologic malignancies and new cancer therapies, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies. I chose this program due to the strong faculty, the opportunity for research experience, excellent clinical training with large diverse patients’ population, and the support for whatever career goal you choose. I felt very welcomed during the interview process and feel confident I will be well prepared for my career in hematology and oncology."

Kendra Wilson, DO PGY6

"Kendra's passions include: serving her patients and making a positive impact on their healthcare journey. Originally from Dale, Oklahoma, Kendra chose this program because her hope is to someday practice in a rural community setting and this program offered an excellent training environment to do so. Fun facts about Kendra, she loves fishing and has recently started to learn the art of fly fishing."

"Ibrahim's passion and goal is malignant hematology. Ibrahim chose this program since he trained in internal medicine here in Tyler, he saw firsthand how outstanding the hematology and oncology faculty here are, and how respected they are by patients and colleagues alike. His hometown is Jeddah, Saudi Arabia." 

Vishrut Shah, MD PGY5

"Vishrut's passions and goals are about hematology and oncology, especially malignant hematology with a strong interest in cellular/Car-T therapies and stem cell transplantation. He chose this program as the program provides a strong commitment to the community-focused, patient-centered care, and it's growing academic reputation in East Texas. The program offers a unique opportunity to serve a diverse and often underserved population, allowing him to make a meaningful impact while gaining comprehensive clinical exposure across a broad spectrum of hematology and oncologic conditions. His home town is in Gujarat, India. Fun facts about Vishrut are he loves exploring the outdoors and often spends his weekends hiking new trails. He also enjoys long scenic drives-they help him relax and reset."

 

Fatima Raza, DO PGY4

"Fatima is passionate about improving access to quality cancer care for our community, specifically as it relates to screening and survivorship. As far as my own practice, I am open-minded, but have broad interests in medical education, both solid and hematologic malignancies, as well as cellular therapy / transplantation. Her awards and associations are the University of Houston Dean's List 2015, 2016. She chose this fellowship because of its supportive learning environment, where the faculty and staff are genuinely invested in the education and professional growth of their trainees. The program's location in East Texas, a largely underserved region, addresses a critical need in cancer care while providing exposure to a broad and diverse spectrum of oncologic pathology, offering invaluable clinical experience. As a newer fellowship at a growing institution, the program also offers the unique opportunity to contribute to its academic development and growth, allowing me to help shape its future while receiving outstanding training. Her hometown is Houston, Texas. Fun facts about her are: she is a citizen of three countries. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors, film photography, watching true crime documentaries, and trying new coffee shops."

 

Emaan Ul Haque, MD PGY4

"Emaan is passionate about delivering compassionate patient care and becoming a skilled hematologist/oncologist. Her awards and associations are Dean's second honors list; highest ITE score in PGY 1-3. She chose this program because during her interview, the faculty all seemed welcoming and she appreciated the strength of training she would receive in this underserved area. Her hometown is Houston, Texas. Fun facts about her are she considers herself a third culture kid: ethnically from Pakistan, born and raised the first half of my life in the US, lived the second half of my life in Saudi Arabia, and now she is back here in the US!"
