Zoom Guide for Medical Students

Zoom is used throughout the School of Medicine for virtual meetings, lectures, advising sessions, presentations and other academic activities. UT Tyler provided access to Zoom using your university account through Single Sign-On (SSO).

Zoom Workplace Application

For the best experience, students should install the Zoom Workplace desktop application on their primary computer.

Download Zoom

Windows: Download Zoom Workplace for Windows

macOS: Download Zoom Workplace for Mac

After Installation

  1. Open Zoom Workplace.
  2. Select Sign-in.
  3. Choose SSO.
  4. Enter the UT Tyler Zoom domain when prompted.
  5. You will be directed to the UT Tyler login page.
  6. Sign in using your UT Tyler credentials and complete MFA if prompted.
  7. Zoom will redirect you back to the Zoom Workplace application.

Important: Students should use the SSO option rather than creating a separate Zoom account with their university email address.

Zoom Web Portal

Students can also access Zoom directly through the UT Tyler web portal:

UT Tyler Zoom Portal

The web portal can be used to manage your Zoom account without installing additional software. From the web portal, students can access and manage features such as:

  • Profile information
  • Scheduled meetings
  • Personal Meeting ID
  • Meeting settings
  • Recordings, when available
  • Zoom preferences and account settings

When visiting the UT Tyler Zoom portal, select the appropriate sign-in option and authenticate using your UT Tyler credentials through Single Sign-On (SSO).

Joining a Zoom Meeting

Students may join meetings by:

  • Clicking a Zoom meeting link provided through Canvas, Outlook, Teams or email
  • Entering a Meeting ID and passcode in the Zoom Workplace application
  • Joining from a web browser when permitted by the meeting host

For classes, examinations or other important sessions, the Zoom Workplace desktop application is recommended instead of joining through a browser.

Before Your Meeting

Students should verify that Zoom is working before an important class or meeting. Open the Zoom Workplace application and check:

Settings > Audio

  • Confirm the correct microphone is selected.
  • Test your microphone.
  • Confirm the correct speaker or headphones are selected.

Settings > Video

  • Confirm the correct camera is selected.
  • Verify that your camera image appears correctly.

Headphones or earbuds with a microphone are recommended when participating from shared or public spaces.

Troubleshooting Sign-in

If Zoom signs you into the wrong account:

  1. Sign out of the Zoom Workplace application
  2. Select Sign in again.
  3. Choose SSO.
  4. Authenticate using your UT Tyler account.

If your browser automatically signs into a personal Microsoft or Zoom account, signing out of that account or using a private/incognito browser window may help.

Students should avoid creating duplicate Zoom accounts using their UT Tyler email address.
