Connecting to Wifi

Wi-Fi Access for School of Medicine Students

Reliable wireless access is available throughout the School of Medicine. Students are encouraged to connect to a secure university network for the best experience when accessing Canvas, Microsoft 365, Examplify, online course materials, streaming educational content and other academic resources.

Recommended Network: Secure Air

Secure Air is the primary wirless network for School of Medicine students and is the recommended network for daily use.

How to Connect

  • Select Secure Air from the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
  • When prompted, enter your Patriots credentials.
  • Accept any security prompts if requested.
  • Once authenticated, your device should automatically reconnect when you return to campus.

Why use Secure Air

  • Recommended network for students
  • Secure, encrypted connection
  • Designed to provide reliable access to university resources
  • Automatically reconnects after initial setup on most devices

Alternative Network: UTSecure

UT Secure is another secure wireless network available to students.

How to Connect

  • Select UT Secure from the available Wi-Fi networks.
  • Enter your UTHCT credentials when prompted.
  • Complete any additional authentication steps if necessary.

When should I use UT Secure

  • If you experience difficulties connecting to Secure Air
  • If a specific university resource recommends the use of your UTHCT account credentials
  • As a secondary secure wireless option while on campus

Important: UT Secure uses your UTHCT credentials, while Secure Air uses your Patriots credentials. Be sure to use the correct username and password for the network you select.

Guest Network: UTGuest

UTGuest is available for basic internet access and does not require university credentials.

Features

  • No username or password required
  • Quick and easy connection for visitors and temporary access
  • Suitable for basic web browsing and email

Limitations

  • Connection speeds are limited to 5 mbps.
  • Performance may be noticeably slower than Secure Air or UT Secure
  • Large downloads, video streaming, cloud storage sync and other bandwidth-intensive activities may take longer

Because of these limitations, UT Guest is not recommended for routine academic use when Secure Air or UT Secure are available.
