Graduate Medical Education Welcome
Welcome to Graduate Medical Education at The University of Texas at Tyler. As the Designated Institutional Official, it is my privilege to welcome you and introduce you to our growing GME community. Our journey began in 1985 with the establishment of the first Family Medicine Residency Program in East Texas. Since then, we have grown from a single residency into a vibrant academic community of 22 ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs with more than 250 residents and fellows.
Our residents and fellows train across hospitals, clinics and communities throughout East Texas, supported by dedicated faculty, program leadership and clinical partners. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to improving access to care for the underserved populations of our region and developing physicians who understand the unique healthcare needs of East Texas. We hope that many of those who train with us will choose to build their careers here and continue serving these communities for years to come.
Together with the UT Tyler School of Medicine, we provide an environment where physicians can strengthen their clinical skills, pursue scholarly interests, develop as leaders and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and communities they serve. The shared core values for all of us in our GME programs are: Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Community.
It is an exciting time to train at UT Tyler. Our programs exist for three major reasons:
- to provide excellent healthcare to East Texas
- to train and retain our residents and students
- to foster an environment for our residents, fellows, students and faculty to flourish
As our programs and partnerships continue to grow, so do the opportunities for our residents and fellows. We are proud of our history and excited about the future we are building together. I invite you to explore our programs, learn more about our community and consider making UT Tyler part of your own journey in medicine. We would be honored to welcome you to East Texas and to the UT Tyler GME family.
